Yap and Snap: Portraits in the Washington Park Arboretum
Abby and I grew up as sisters do, fighting, trading snarky comments, and becoming best friends two minutes later. I believe that is a common occurrence, and as we grew up, along with our younger sister, we became closer, a front against the world.
Abby has always been the sister I’ve forced to do portraits in our luscious, summer-y background in Sitka, Alaska. From the time we got our first digital cameras, that grew into iPhones, and eventually into my Nikon D3500, we were setting up photo sessions.

We bonded over Sitka Fine Arts Camp classes in high school, each of us taking our separate art classes all day, and sharing a walk home together in the evenings. It worked well, the way we just naturally stuck together. Now, we both still pursue those arts, check out Abby's website.
As we grew, so did my portraits. My style became clearer, we played with angles more, we laughed, and we yapped.
Yap and Snap is a name that came from my sister, when I was discussing on our latest photo walk in the Washington Park Arboretum how much I loved just talking, getting to know clients, and easing them into a photoshoot that feels less like a photoshoot and more like a walk with a new friend.
Abby and I yapped about our career plans, her growing family, both of our moves to new places, and the house work that comes with that. Our conversations have morphed with us over the years, from talking about prospective boys, to talking about our forever partners, from talking over homework assignments and college essays, to talking over our latest hobbies and projects.

It is pretty amazing to go through life next to two sisters, to learn from one and teach the next. I am in a unique spot, where I can enjoy watching both of them grow and flourish, while capturing new portraits of them each year.
Want to join me on a Yap and Snap walk this fall for some portraits in Washington? Message me to set up a session.
