Photober Self Portrait Challenge

I am just over halfway through my first ever “photober” challenge. If you have heard of Inktober, the challenge to artists to draw one ink drawing a day from a prompt for all of October, photober is just the same thing for photographers.

The first thing I told myself was that it was okay to fail. 31 photoshoots in 31 days is A LOT, not to mention the fact that I had other paid sessions planned as well. I was confident that I could do it, but I did not want to let Photober be the cause of early burnout as I tackled this photo career.

I have missed days, I have been unmotivated to pick up the camera, but I have caught up on them all. That’s the thing about not putting pressure on myself, and letting inspiration come when it wants to. My creative self is flourishing, and my motivation is still peaking.

I wanted human subjects for a lot of the prompts, but the issue was finding a human. I decided to venture into the self portrait realm, something I have always avoided, but have always wanted to do.

A lot of the inspiration to start self portraits comes from an Instagram influencer I have admired for years. Rosie Rainbow is authentically herself at all times, and that is hard to do.

So, I journeyed into the self portrait, seriously, for the first time ever. Wow, was the first post terrifying.

And then, I found acceptance, and joy, and connection through my photos, and the motivation just kept coming.

As a fellow nail biter, it took a long time to manage the habit & like how my fingers look. Around 24 I take a gander. Thank you for sharing this!!!
The story behind these makes them even more interesting. Raw emotion and feeling can be felt, the absence of color ties it all in beautifully.
the STORYTELLING!!!!! these pictures carry so much emotion and untold stories. i love so much!!!!
Reaching out to oneself is never easy, this is such a healing and interesting project. Extending a hand to your hands has a certain poetry to it. The black and white adds that “weight”, so cool!

Enjoy this selection, and stay tuned for the last week and a half of October.
